Wrth ddefnyddio offer llaw a hen ddulliau traddodiadol o weithio coed, dwi’n creu dodrefn unigryw i alw a gofyn. Yn saer coed pedwerydd cenhedlaeth, mae arddel hen grefft a dysgu mwy amdani wrth ei hymarfer yn bwysig i mi.
Wrth i ofynion oesau newid, mae’n braf medru parhau i ddefnyddio hen grefft i greu dodrefn ar safle oedd yn cael ei defnyddio i greu olwynion troliau, darnau i’r felin ddŵr ac offer amaethyddol o bob math.
Coed derw fydda i’n eu defnyddio gan amlaf, a rheiny wedi’u llifio o ddistiau a pholion o hên dai a ffermdai hyd a lled Nant Conwy. Mae’r coed hynafol (oleiaf 300 mlynedd) ar ôl eu llifio yn cynnig lliw a graen a gorffeniad arbennig.
Dysgais y pethau elfenol gan Paul Sellers, crefftwr o adnabyddir hyd a lled y byd, a gweithiais ar fy mhen fy hun ers hynny gan gwblhau nifer o gomisiynau mewn arddulliau gwahanol i nifer o wahanol bobol.
Dwi’n edrych ymlaen yn arw i glywed ganddoch chi i drafod syniadau neu i gychwyn gweithio ar y comisiwn nesa!
Using hand tools and traditional methods of working wood, I create unique bespoke furniture. A fourth generation carpenter, hand woodworking and learning about the craft as I practice it is an important part of the work for me.
As the needs of society changes, it’s a privilage to be able to practice an old craft to make furniture on a site that once saw wheelwrights and craftsmen creating diverse farm tools of all kinds.
I usualy work in oak reclaimed from beams and poles from ancient disused buildings the length and breadth of the Conwy valley. The ancient timber lends an unique character after being milled.
I learnt the basics, and a lot more besides, form Paul Sellers – a craftsman known worldwide for his skilled work, and I’ve worked on my own since then finishing many commisions in many different styles for a number of customers.
I look forward to hearing from you to discuss ideas or to start working on the next commision!
