I’r Byw // Llŷr Alun Jones // Galeri, Caernarfon // GISDA
Mewn chwe awr, heb gynllun, mae ‘na bosibiliadau. Cwpwrdd bach a dau ddrws oedd i’w ddefnyddio fel canfas ar gyfer syniadau’r grŵp a’r artist.

Pobl ifanc lleol sy’n cael eu cefnogi gan elusen GISDA i ddod dros amgylchiadau heriol ac i fyw’n annibynnol oedd aelodau’r grŵp, yn cydweithio efo’r artist Llŷr Alun Jones a minnau.

Mae’n anodd weithiau mewn sesiynau grŵp i gychwyn a chael pobol i wneud y marc cynta’, felly dyma’r artist Llŷr Alun yn cymryd bwyell a chwalu’r pren llyfn efo un swing nerthol.

Dyma ddinistrio i greu.

In six hours, without a plan, there are possibilities. A small two-door cupboard was the canvas to be used for the group and artist’s ideas.

Group members were local young people being supported by the GISDA charity to overcome challenging circumstances and to live independent lives.

It’s sometimes difficult in group sessions to begin and to get people to make their first mark, so Llŷr Alun, the artist, took hold of an axe and shattered the smooth wood with one mighty swing.

This was destruction to create.

Yn organig rywsut dyma’r grŵp yn dechrau cymryd rhan, ac ar ôl y chwalu, dyma ail-adeiladu fel cadair. Daeth hyn yn eitha naturiol a’r siap yn awgrymu cadair uchel i blentyn.

O drafod gwleidyddiaeth, anghyfiawnderau’r byd ac abswrdiaeth brenhiniaeth o unrhyw fath yn 2018 penderfynodd y grŵp a’r artist y byddai’r gadair yn gwneud gorsedd iawn i’r darpar frenin, y Tywysog Siôr.

Organically somehow the group started to take part, and after the shattering started the reconstruction as a chair. This came quite naturally with the shape suggesting a child’s highchair.

Discussing politics, global injustices and the absurdity of any kind of monarchy in 2018 the group and artist decided that the chair would make a fine throne for the future king, Prince George.

I ddatblygu’r syniad ymhellach, a chario mlaen efo’r ethos o ddinistrio er mwyn creu, llosgwyd hi yn eitha hegr drwy ddefnyddio’r pren oedd yn weddill i greu tân cymharol fawr ar y sêt.

Arweiniodd hyn at drafodaeth am y tŵr yn Grenfell a’r tebygrwydd rhwng y gadair losgiedig a’r adeilad hwnnw yng Ngogledd Kensington.

To develop the idea further and continue with the ethos of creation from destruction, it was burnt quite fiercely by using the left-over wood to set a fairly substantial fire on the seat.

This led to a discussion on Grenfell Tower and the similarity betwen the burnt chair and that building in North Kensington.

Mae’r gwhaniaethau a’r anhegwch mewn cymdeithas yn amlwg mewn bywyd bob dydd. Pa ots am frenhiniaeth i berson digartref? Yr un anhegwch a barusrwydd ag achosodd y drychineb yn Llundain sydd hefyd yn effeithio ar bobol mwya bregus cymdeithas yma yng Nghymru.

Mae chwarae ar eiriau pwrpasol ac eironig ar gefn y gadair. Er yn gyfarchiad bob dydd eithaf cyffredin a serchus yn yr ardal, yn sicr mae’r geiriau hefyd yn amharchus, ond mae’r system ei hun yn amharchus a dyma ymateb rhai o drigolion ifanc Caernarfon, sydd ei hun yn dref frenhinol, i’r amharchusrwydd hwnnw.

Social differences and injustices are obvious in everyday life. What do the homeless care about monarchy? It’s the same injustice and greed that caused the disaster in London that also impacts on the most vulnerable people in society here in Wales.

There’s a deliberate and ironic play on words (in Welsh) on the chair back. Although quite an usual and affable everyday greeting in the area, most definitely the wording is also disrespectful, but the system itself is disrespectful and this is the response of some young citizens of Caernarfon, itself a royal town, to that lack of respect.

A’r pwynt dwi’n meddwl ydi yn hytrach na chael ein tramgwyddo gan air ar ddarn o gelf, oni fyddai’n well cymryd gwir olwg ar y materion sydd wedi arwain ato a chael ein tramgwyddo hyd at weithredu gan anghyfiawnderau Prydeindod?
And I think the point is that rather than be offended by a word on a piece of art wouldn’t it be better for us to take a really close look at the issues that have led to it and be offended to the point of action by the injustices of the British state?
